What is the difference between NMH support and traditional tutoring?

NMH support and traditional tutoring serve different purposes. NMH support encompasses a range of services, including one-on-one tutoring, mentoring, and practical support, provided by specialist mentors or support workers. Traditional tutoring typically focuses on academic subject matter and is conducted by subject-specific tutors. NMH support goes beyond subject-specific tutoring and addresses the individual needs of students, providing tailored strategies and support to help them overcome barriers to learning.

How do I know if I am eligible for DSA NMH support?

Eligibility for NMH support is determined through an assessment process conducted by an assessment center. The assessment center evaluates the student's individual needs and determines if they qualify for NMH support. Once eligibility is established, students can apply for NMH support through the Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) application process, which provides funding for NMH support services.

Can NMH support be customized to fit specific learning needs?

Yes, NMH support can be customised to fit specific learning needs. NMH support workers work closely with students to understand their individual needs and develop tailored strategies and support to address their specific challenges. By providing personalized assistance and guidance, NMH support workers ensure that students receive the support they need to succeed in their studies.

How long can a student receive NMH support?

The duration of NMH support for a student depends on their individual needs and the length of their higher education journey. NMH support can be provided throughout the duration of a student's studies to ensure continuous support and guidance. The specific duration will be determined through the assessment process and can vary from student to student.
